The digital camera is very popular and many people choose to buy them. Digital camera insurance may also revolutionise the way you view the risks associated with your camera.
Nagging concerns
You are able to slip your camera into your pocket or handbag and have it with you wherever you go. They’re there and available for that opportunistic snap or just to record the events of a given moment whenever you want.
If you’re a serious amateur photographer or just a really enthusiastic amateur, you might typically carry your camera around regularly – particularly when travelling.
Of course carrying your camera with you poses many problems, it might be stolen or lost.
You might, of course, just dig into your emergency savings and buy yourself a new camera – assuming that you have emergency savings to hand!
If that scenario isn’t one that appeals, then thinking about some form of camera protection may be advisable.
It typically works simply. For your premium you might typically be able to find a policy providing benefits such as:
· cover against theft;
· the camera breaking down outside of manufacturer’s warranty protection;
· accidental destruction;
· you may get a new camera within 48 hours of making a claim that is successful;
· global coverage if you were to venture outside of the UK.
Of course you may have additional equipment such as lenses – these might be coverable separately if you ask the insurance provider to do so.
Others may also offer optional loss cover too, for an additional premium.
Be careful with your property
Typically, camera insurance protection won’t cover you against your own forgetfulness though.
So, if you lose it you won’t be able to claim.
Your policy might also insist that if it’s stolen, the police are notified immediately (within less than 24-hours) and that you obtain a formal police crime number to support your claim application.
Policies may also carry an excess – details of which will typically be explained in the initial protection description documents.
In terms of breakdown protection, some caution may be advisable when doing things such as adding accessories or trying to customise your camera. Some policies may generally not accept damage repair claims arising from your efforts to do something to the camera that’s subsequently gone badly wrong.
Do note that your insurance for cameras will be subject to policy limitations, exclusions, terms and conditions.
Digital camera insurance is something that may generally prove very useful in times of adversity. Knowing a little more might be beneficial.
